FIGMENT First Night is publicly accessible and ideally located near the Park Street MBTA station and dozens of major attractions in downtown Boston. In keeping with the spirit of FIGMENT, FIGMENT First Night is completely free and open to the public.
FIGMENT creates free, volunteer-driven participatory art events that bring together the community in a celebration of art and a culture where everything is possible! At each event, everyone is invited to play with the art, temporarily transforming public spaces into wildly creative places that disappear without a trace.
FIGMENT demonstrates what the arts can be: interactive, creative and free, born from the desire to share imagination and invention between artists and the public. Over the past 4 years, FIGMENT Boston has helped bring hundreds of interactive art projects to downtown Boston, inspiring thousands of people to broaden their definition of art by breaking down the wall between spectator and artist and encouraging everyone to participate.

Founded in 2007 on New York City’s Governors Island with a handful of projects and a few thousand enthusiasts, FIGMENT has grown exponentially into a series of multi-day, multi-city events in the US, Canada, and Australia. FIGMENT continues to expand its mission to offer free, family-friendly and participatory art to entire communities, removing the barriers of museum and gallery walls and entrance fees, blurring the lines between those who create and those who enjoy art. FIGMENT is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization entirely funded by grants and individual donations and accepts no corporate sponsorship of any kind.
About First Night:
First Night revives the ancient traditions of marking the passage of time in a present day context. It was created by a group of civic-minded artists in Boston as a meaningful alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve revelry. Offered to the city as a finale to its Bicentennial events in 1976, First Night Boston also began a new tradition, bringing neighboring communities together through a joint celebration. First Night is now celebrated in over 75 cities across the country.
