FIGMENT Boston is excited to join the New Year’s Eve festivities at First Night Boston on December 31, 2013! Our call for participation is now open, closing November 1, 2013. Submit your project today!
We will be hosting two brief site tours for interested artists. Please join us on Sunday, October 20, at 1PM or Tuesday, October 22, at 1215PM. An RSVP to BOSTON@figmentproject.org is appreciated but not required. Meet us at the fountain just south of the Park St headhouses near Tremont St.
Types of Projects
If you are unsure what type of project to propose, we suggest asking yourself the following questions:
For small projects, “What fun, interactive project could I put into a 10×10 tent with a budget of about $500?”
For medium projects, “What fun, interactive project could I put into a 10×20 tent with a budget of about $1000?”
For large projects, “What large-scale interactive art project that would serve as a signature project for the event could I build with a budget of up to $2500 and a large support team?”
Note that there is no music stage at this event. If you would like to bring music, submit your act as a project and plan on performing for at least 3-4 hours. Please pay special attention to how you could make your music interactive/participatory. Can you put your band in a tent and play private concerts for small groups? Can you have an open mic as part of your act and invite participants to join you? Could you somehow involve participants in your DJ set?
We are also holding special calls for the following types of projects. Get all the details in our submissions packet at this link.
- Propane Flame Effects of any size may be submitted for consideration along with a detailed safety plan. Projects should be interactive. This section is contingent upon approval from Boston Fire and our insurance company. $250-$2500, depending on the size of the project.
- Tree lighting projects for the large tree in the picture below or other adjacent trees, with a budget of $250-$500.
- Projection mapping on St. Paul’s Cathedral across Tremont St. See picture below. Budget of up to $1500.
- Art cars, which will be stationary at the event. $250 stipend per car.
The event will take place in the approximate area shown on the map below from 7:30 PM on December 31, 2013 to 12:01 AM on January 1, 2014. Setup will begin in the morning and the bulk of the installations should be completely set up before 4PM.
Electricity, tents, and some equipment support will be provided on request.
The picture below shows the main area of FIGMENT First Night. We encourage projects that will creatively light the large tree at the end of the lawn. The map is the approximate FIGMENT area. The cathedral is available for our special call for projection mapping.
